Using our ARTS tools helps us to bring our creativity into reality. These positive disciplines aid our growth through creativity each day. |
1
Affirmations: We identify ourselves as the creative people we are; 'My name is ________ and I am a __________' [eg: painter, singer, creative person]. This and other positive statements affirm our commitment to our creativity and offset old invalidating beliefs. |
2
Meetings: We attend meetings to learn how the program works. We share our experience, strength and hope with each other. |
3
Steps:
We work the 12-Steps of ARTS Anonymous. |
4
Abstinence: We abstain from the compulsions which can divert us from using our creative energy productively. |
5
Daily Action: We find ways to express and nurture our creativity in every 24-hour time period, accepting where we are and what we can do. |
6
ARTS Buddy: An ARTS Buddy is a helpmate in recovery, we speak with them, handing over what we have done or will do for our creativity today. |
7
Telephone: We use the phone to maintain contact with members of ARTS between meetings. Talking on the phone helps both artists. |
8
Bookending: We bookend by making calls before and after actions for our art. Verbalising our thoughts and feelings clarifies our course of action, and allows us to move through the process. |
9
Action Group: We form mutual support groups of ARTS members to help each other develop an action plan and follow it through. |
10
Action Plan: This is our personal road map for ARTS recovery. It includes specific actions to take for the development of our art and of ourselves as creative people. It may also include a plan for realising our professional aspirations and achieving balance in the significant areas of our lives. |
11
Creative Inventory: We take a written inventory of our creative efforts and accomplishments since childhood. We also make a list of our creative goals and what we want to do in our art. |
12
Meditation: We work the 11th Step, seeking 'through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with our Higher Power, as we understand it, asking only for knowledge of its will for us and the power to carry that out.' |
13
Literature: We use ARTS literature, and the literature of other Twelve Step Programs. We use inspirational material from many sources. |
14
Service: Service expands our commitment to our ARTS recovery, putting the common welfare of ARTS before our own needs. This helps us maintain humility and safeguard against grandiosity, low self-esteem, isolation and self-indulgence. ARTS could not exist without the service of its members. |
15
Anonymity: We practice anonymity by respecting the confidential nature of members' sharing. Who we see and what and hear at meetings, is not repeated outside the meeting. |
